Real Work Situation Solved
Persuade leadership about an AI feature's risk - with evidence
“You think this AI feature is risky but leadership wants to ship now - how do you get heard?”
5-Step Action Framework
- 1Open with the conclusion (BLUF - Bottom Line Up Front): what the risk is, how severe, what you're proposing - in the first 1-2 sentences.
- 2Quantify the risk with a number or a concrete scenario, not a feeling ("this seems dangerous").
- 3State the cost if the risk materializes (money, reputation, legal) alongside the cost of delaying launch - so leadership compares a real trade-off.
- 4Propose a specific mitigation (e.g. a limited rollout, an added guardrail) instead of just saying "we shouldn't do this".
- 5End with one clear decision question for leadership to answer - don't let the meeting end without a decision.
Before
"I think this feature is kind of risky, we should think about it more."
After
"Risk: 12% of answers were wrong in internal testing, which could lead customers to bad financial decisions. Cost of a 2-week delay: losing first-mover advantage. Proposal: launch to 5% of traffic with a warning label, expand once the error rate drops below 3%."
